Justice Haneman was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. April 25, 1902. His education included graduation from Wast Orange High School in 1919 and from Syracuse University in 1923 with degree LL.B. He was admitted as an attorney in 1924 and as a counsellor in 1928. He was an Assemblyman from Atlantic County 1938-1944; counsel to the N. J. Racing Commission 1940-44 ; Common Pleas Judge Atlantic County from 1944 to 1947 and was appointed Vice-Chancellor in 1947. .

Justice Haneman was member of the Board of Education, Brigantine 1926-1934 and was Mayor of Brigantine 1934- 1942. He was a member of the Atlantic County and New Jersey Bar Associations, Elks, Red Men, Sigma Nu, Phi Delta Phi and Phi Kappa Phi ; Trinity Lodge, F. & A. M., and the American Bar Association.

He became a Judge of the Superior Court on Sept. 15, 1948 and was reappointed on June 11, 1954. From Sept. 15, 1948 to Feb. 1, 1958, he served in the Chancery Division. From Feb. 1, 1958 to Nov. 28, 1960, he served in the Appellate Division.

He was appointed an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on Nov. 28, 1960. He retired from the Court March 1, 1971 and died on Jan. 10, 1978 at the age of 76. He was married to the former Helen Marris of Atlantic City. The couple had two sons and six grandchildren.
