Passaic Vicinage to Host Law Week
The Passaic Vicinage will celebrate Law Day with a weeklong series of activities next week, concluding with a formal program on Friday, May 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Passaic County Administration Building, 401 Grand St., Paterson.
A panel of judges, staff, and local stakeholders will discuss the theme of this year’s Law Day, “Voices of Democracy.” Panelists include Superior Court Judge Nadia Kahf; Woodland Park police Lt. Erik Luker; Jason Williams, professor of justice studies at Montclair State University: and Eghosasere Idemudia, a vicinage family division law clerk.
The Passaic County Technical Institute “Tech Tones” choir will perform. Members of the Clifton High School mock trial team will be recognized and awarded for winning the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s statewide mock trial competition. The team is the first school in Passaic County to win the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition.
Middle school and high school students who participated in the countywide poetry, poster, video, and photography contests also will be recognized.
Other activities, beginning Monday, May 6, include school visits, a career day, job fairs, and health and wellness presentations.
The following events also will be included in the weeklong celebration:
- Tuesday, May 7 – student mock trials, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in three courtrooms on the ninth floor of the administration building.
- Thursday, May 9 – student mock trials championship, 5:30 -7:30 p.m. in ceremonial courtroom 222 of the Passaic County Courthouse, 77 Hamilton St., Paterson.
The Law Day program is sponsored by the Passaic Vicinage Law Day Committee, the Passaic County Bar Association, and the vicinage’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.
