Monmouth Vicinage to Hold Recovery Court Graduation Ceremony

The Monmouth Vicinage will conduct its 40th recovery court graduation ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 9:30 a.m. to recognize six participants for advancing through the phases of recovery court and satisfying the significant requirements of the program.

“We look forward to honoring and gaining inspiration from the achievements of our recovery court participants. We wish them continued success in their personal and professional lives and as productive members of our community. We also commend the efforts of the recovery court team members for their important impact on the lives of the participants,” Assignment Judge Marc Lemieux said.

The Judiciary’s recovery court program is comprised of a highly specialized team within the Superior Court that relies on a collaborative relationship between criminal justice officials and drug treatment professionals to address non-violent, drug-related cases. The program requires the completion of four or five phases of intensive drug and alcohol treatment that includes intensive probation supervision, and frequent drug testing and court appearances.

“Monmouth’s recovery court presents participants with the opportunity to address their substance abuse issues while also rehabilitating their criminal behavior. Although the program is rigorous, participants benefit from the extensive services it offers, including employment opportunities, educational placements, and therapeutic sessions. These graduates held fast to their recovery during unprecedented times and continued to be examples to their fellow participants, said Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon, the vicinage’s recovery court judge.

The vicinage’s recovery court program, which started more than 20 years ago, has 207 participants and 669 graduates.
