Jeffrey T. Gallus Appointed Clerk of New Jersey Tax Court

The New Jersey Supreme Court has appointed Jeffrey T. Gallus as clerk and administrator of the Tax Court, effective Jan. 1, 2024, Tax Court Presiding Judge Mala Sundar announced today.

Gallus, a team leader in the Tax Court Management Office, succeeds Cheryl Ryan, who retires Dec. 31 after 28 years with the Judiciary, the last 18 years as clerk and administrator.

“I am delighted that Jeff was selected to be the new Tax Court clerk/administrator to succeed Cheryl Ryan upon her retirement. Jeff is eminently qualified, both academically and in experience, to step into Cheryl’s very large shoes. While I am saddened to see Cheryl leave, she and I are confident that Jeff’s transition will be seamless and that he will continue to do all that is needed for the efficient and smooth running of the Tax Court,” Judge Sundar said.

In his new role, Gallus will oversee all case operations and management for the more than 15,000 cases filed annually in the Tax Court, in addition to state tax cases. He also will be responsible for administrative services for the Tax Court, including facilities, personnel, information technology, and budget.

The New Jersey Tax Court hears appeals of tax decisions made by county boards of taxation on matters involving local property taxes, and by the New Jersey Division of Taxation on matters involving state income taxes, homestead rebates, and sales and business taxes.

Gallus joined the Judiciary in 2012 as a court services officer in the Monmouth Vicinage’s civil division and moved to the Tax Court two years later.

A graduate of Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, Gallus earned his master’s degree from Suffolk University in Boston.
