Mercer Vicinage to Celebrate Law Day
The Mercer Vicinage will hold its Law Day celebration on Wednesday, May 24. The national theme for Law Day is “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration.”
The celebration will include a court visit from Ewing High School students. The students will begin their visit in the civil courthouse, where they will observe landlord tenant court before Superior Court Judge William Anklowitz. Students will then visit with Family Presiding Judge Rodney Thompson and representatives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mercer County Public Defender’s Office for an overview and discussion about the juvenile justice system.
Following their visit to family court, students will head to the criminal courthouse, where they will view a video by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and participate in Law Day-themed discussions with Assignment Judge Robert Lougy, Mercer County Bar Association President Margaret Chipowsky, and a representative from the prosecutor’s office.
Law Day is a national event established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as “a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law.”
