Notice – Reminder of the September 7 Virtual Judicial Conference on Proposed Amendments to the Rules of Evidence – “Hearsay – Statement Against Interest."

This is a reminder that, as set forth in the July 31, 2023 notice, the New Jersey Judiciary is convening a virtual Judicial Conference at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023 to discuss proposed amendments to the Rules of Evidence. The proposed amendments to Rules 803(c)(25) and 804(b)(3) (“Hearsay – Statement Against Interest”) would require that the declarant be unavailable in order for statement against interest hearsay to be admitted into evidence.

As provided in the earlier notice, the September 7 Judicial Conference will be live streamed for public viewing. For those wishing to view the session, a link will be posted on the front page of the Judiciary website on the morning of the Judicial Conference (https://www.njcourts.gov ).
