As part of ongoing efforts to improve juror experiences, the Judiciary is beginning implementation of an on-demand virtual approach to juror orientation. This approach to the orientation portion of the process will enable a person summoned for jury service to register and view a recorded orientation presentation online before reporting for selection (with the selection portion of the process conducted either in-person at the courthouse or virtually).
The pre-recorded juror orientation provides the same information as the traditional live orientation and reiterates the options for jurors to request to be rescheduled or excused from jury service without having to come to the courthouse to do that.
Starting in October 2023 , on-demand juror orientation will begin with select pools of jurors in Hudson County, followed by jurors in Mercer County and Salem County. Subject to refinements based on those initial experiences, the Judiciary will expand the program statewide by January 1, 2024, so that people summoned as petit (trial) jurors can complete orientation in the most convenient manner possible.
