Union Vicinage to Celebrate 14th Annual Adoption Day

Assignment Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh, along with Family Division Presiding Judge Thomas J. Walsh, announced today that the Union Vicinage will celebrate National Adoption Day on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The event will take place in person at the Cherry Street Annex, 2 Cherry St., Elizabeth. Superior Court Judge Daniel Roberts will preside over two adoptions beginning 9:30 a.m. Five other families who adopted children in 2022 also will join the celebration.

Breakfast will be provided by the Union County Surrogate’s Office. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Union County Inc. arranged for gift baskets created with donations from the community, students and staff of David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, and other organizations, for the families.

The celebration will include face painting, balloon art, and a performance by singer Johnny Rodriguez Tobar. Union County Sheriff’s Office employees will dress as superheroes and have arranged for an ice cream truck. Gretchen Boger-O’Bryan of CASA will arrange the families’ first family portrait.

National Adoption Day is an annual event in which courts and communities in all 50 states join to raise public awareness of the need for adoptive homes, to finalize thousands of adoptions, and to celebrate families who adopt.

Although adoption proceedings are closed to the public, arrangements will be made for reporters to interview willing families after the adoption proceedings have concluded. For more information, contact Civil Division Manager Sandra Thaler-Gerber at 908-787-1650, ext. 21491.
