Passaic Vicinage to Commemorate National Military Appreciation Month

The Passaic Vicinage will observe National Military Appreciation Month with a series of May events at the Historic Courthouse, 71 Hamilton St., Paterson.

The vicinage will host the events in collaboration with the Passaic County Board of Commissioners, the Office of the Passaic County Clerk, the Passaic County Bar Association and the Passaic County Office of Veterans’ Services.

The first event, a medal ceremony, will be held Tuesday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Ceremonial Courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse. Veterans from throughout Passaic County will receive medals for their service in the armed forces.

On Thursday, May 26, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held at noon on the courthouse steps. Superior Court Judge Richard M. Freid will serve as master of ceremonies. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the rotunda area of the courthouse. The ceremony will include laying of wreaths to honor faller soldiers.

The U.S. Senate passed a resolution in 1999 designating May as National Military Appreciation Month in honor of current and former members of the armed forces, including those who died in service to their country.
