Bergen Vicinage to Hold Law Day Celebration

The Bergen Vicinage will hold its annual Law Day program on Monday, May 2 at 3 p.m. at the Court Street entrance to the Bergen County Justice Center, 10 Main St., Hackensack.

The program, “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change,” will begin with a presentation of colors by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. Superior Court Judge James J. Guida, chair of the vicinage’s Law Day Committee, will give welcoming remarks and Sheriff Anthony Cureton will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Attorney Kali Trahanis will sing the national anthem. Bergen County Clerk John S. Hogan will give the keynote address.

Assignment Judge Bonnie J. Mizdol will administer the oath of citizenship to 30 new citizens and will provide welcoming remarks.

Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco, Bergen County Board of Commissioners Chair Tracy Silna Zur, and Bergen County Bar Association President Jason E. Foy also will speak.

Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler, along with Hogan and Cureton, will present awards for the county’s “My County” poster contest.

The event will be held in partnership with Bergen County, the county bar association and the vicinage’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.

Established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day was designated as “a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law.”
