Monmouth, Ocean, and Burlington Vicinages to Commemorate Women’s History Month

The Monmouth, Ocean, and Burlington vicinages will commemorate Women’s History Month with a virtual panel discussion on the experiences of women in New Jersey government on Wednesday, March 30 at noon.

Monmouth Assignment Judge Lisa P. Thornton will give opening remarks. Burlington General Equity Presiding Judge Paula T. Dow will discuss her experience serving as New Jersey Attorney General, and Ocean Assignment Judge Marlene Lynch Ford will discuss her experience as a female member of the New Jersey General Assembly. The panelists also will discuss how the roles of women in government leadership have changed over time and what inspired women to pursue these leadership roles beginning in the 1990s. Retired acting Associate Justice Mary Catherine Cuff will moderate the program.

Mike Mathis, manager of publications and video services in the Judiciary’s Office of Communications and Community Relations and staff member to the New Jersey Supreme Court Historical Advisory Board, will provide a tour of the Virtual Museum, which is documenting the journeys of notable female judges and justices. He will highlight speeches, videos and content designed to educate the public about the impact of leading female jurists.

The virtual event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. For more information, to register, or to request an ADA accommodation or interpreting services, contact Ombudsman Rebekah Heilman at 732-358-8700, ext. 87251 or rebekah.heilman@njcourts.gov.

The event is sponsored by the Superior Court of New Jersey, Burlington, Monmouth, and Ocean vicinages’ EEO/AA Advisory Committees and the Vicinage Advisory Committees on Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement.
