Justice Mountain was born June 28, 1909, in East Orange. He received his A.B. degree from Princeton University in 1931 and an LL.B. degree from Harvard Law School in 1934. He was a partner in the law firm of Jeffers and Mountain, of Morristown. He was a past president of the Morris County Bar Association and was a member the American and New Jersey Bar Associations. He served as a member of the Board of Managers of the Morristown Memorial Hospital and as President and Trustee of the North Jersey Conservation Foundation. He served in the naval forces as a commissioned officer from 1943 to 1945.
He served on the Supreme Court from March 15, 1971, until June 27, 1979. Justice Mountain died on Aug. 24, 1992, at the age of 83. He and his wife had four children.
