The Family Practice Division falls under the Trial Court Services Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts. As such, it supports the core values of the New Jersey court system: independence, integrity, fairness and quality service. The primary function of the division is to develop and implement policies, procedures and best practices in the vicinages and to support state-level committees to advance the goals of the Judiciary in family-related areas. Approximately 400,000 family-related matters involving divorce, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, child support, foster-care placements, adoption, abuse and neglect, termination of parental rights, kinship/legal guardianship, custody and parenting time are heard in family court. The division also provides technical assistance in the areas of policy, case management, staff training, and research and statistics. It coordinates a number of volunteer initiatives that allow citizen input into Judiciary programs.
